DESCRIPTION: \nOn April 20, 2013 Farmingdale State College held its first Social Justice and Diversity Summit that featured cutting-edge research on the persistence of inequalities such as: educational inequalities, racism, gender inequality, environmental injustice, disability rights, and LGBT issues, as well as information on getting involved in local non-profit organizations aimed at addressing these quagmires. The goal was to engage in meaningful dialogue about how we here on Long Island, in New York, and in the United States can work towards achieving equality, social justice, and equal access to vital resources regardless of race, ethnicity, class, age, religion, gender, disability, and/or sexual orientation. The event featured a keynote address by Jonathan Kozol, who addressed educational inequalities. Other speakers included: Elaine Gross (President Erase Racism), Stacey Scarpone (Executive Director Women’s Fund Long Island), and Dr. Kishi Animashaun Ducre (Syracuse University). \n\nFor details, click here: https://www.eraseracismny.org/take-action/attend-an-event/past-events/event/24
