How Does Systemic and Structural Racism Impact Your Ability to Access High-Quality Education

OVERVIEW

The contest is for public high school seniors on Long Island who have plans to attend a two- or four-year college or accredited vocational program. Official proof of enrollment to a college or program (verification form or letter) must be provided to receive award.

How does systemic and structural racism impact your aility to access high-quality education and/pr pursue your passion?

* Note: Students may submit written, artistic or video submissions.
Submissions can take the form of:
  1. Written Essay: a maximun of 900 words, double-spaced, allowing students to delve into their ideas, perspectives, and personal stories in depth.
  2. Showcasing Creativity: through artistic expressions, such as drawings, paintings, or digital artwork with a written statement.
  3. Video submission: a maximum duration of two minutes.
The best submission will showcase and be judged on:
  1. Strong Content: Share meaningful insights and personal experiences.
  2. Clear Expression: Communicate your ideas effectively and persuasively
  3. Originality: Bring a fresh perspective to the conversation.

Whether through words, art, or video, we encourage students to share their voices and visions on the given topic.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Essays must be 900 words maximum, submitted in Word format, and emailed to info@eraseracismny.org with the subject heading "John Wenzel Award" To be considered for the scholarship, you must also include the following contact information with your submission: Name, Email, Phone Number, and School.
