Eliminating Barriers to Racial Equity

Unraveling Racism Training

ERASE Racism's Unraveling Racism Trainings (URT) provides a context, framework, and language for understanding the realities of racism and how individuals can work to dismantle racism in their personal and professional lives.

We offer two levels of the URT: level 1 is the Core workshop, and level 2 is the Applied Skills workshop.

The Core Workshop

The Core Workshop provides the knowledge and understanding necessary to address issues of racial inequities. Through a variety of activities participants learn about the effects of white privilege, internalized racism and oppression, and are provided with a safe and supportive environment to reflect upon their own experiences.

The Applied Skills Workshop

The Applied Skills Workshop employs the concepts taught in the Core by working with participants on an individualized plan of action to increase racial equity in their own community. Participants attend the workshop with colleagues from work, church or their community, who will carry out the action plan together.

Sessions include interactive exercises, small group discussion and self-exploration.
Registration Fee : URT 1: $375, URT 2: $500
(Limited subsidies available for law enforcement personnel, government officials and some public school staff.)

Testimonials

"This two day workshop should be a mandatory part of all teacher preparation work in college." -Marilyn M. Rodahan, principal in the Port Washington public schools

"Every organization should expose their team to this program. Together we will make a difference." -Ms. Kate Rossi, president and COO of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage

"It was a life changing event. After the training, I was able to speak about racism in a different way. The interactive activities, small group discussions and self exploration activities clarified how internalized and institutionalized racism can be dismantled. I literally became a different person. I went back to my job and spoke to my supervisor about hiring more people of color, but I also talked to friends, co-workers, and clients about our internalized racism and what to do about it." -Cecilia Escamilla, Ph.D., LCSW, clinical social worker in a Port Washington Public School.

"Outstanding training, one of the best I have participated in. An excellent learning experience about racism and a real awakening." -Dr. Regina White, Educational Director of Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County.
