As part of a national Call to Action by the Zinn Education Project, ERASE Racism invites students, educators, parents, and community members passionate about #TeachingTruth to our Action on June 11, 2022.

Lauren Brincat, the curator of Preservation Long Island, will present for 30 minutes about the history of slavery at the Joseph Lloyd Manor House. Then, student organizers from the ERASE Racism Student Task Force will lead a discussion about the importance of learning this history, including how it relates to the dangerous laws that threaten to restrict learning. Finally, attendees of the event will have an opportunity to make pledges – to teaching the truth, learning the truth, hearing the truth, and protecting the truth for our students. Click here to see pledges from our event last year.

ALL students deserve an accurate, honest, and high quality public education. Not only do we believe that addressing the history and impact of systemic racism will benefit us all -- whether we are Black, Brown, Asian, or White -- we believe that learning a full and accurate history is a constitutional right and a responsibility.

This is why we want to collectively raise our voices in support of teachers who #TeachTruth.

The event will be co-hosted with Preservation LI and will take place at the Joseph Lloyd Manor House. This event is FREE FOR ALL but PLEASE REGISTER using this form on our website if you wish to attend.

This event will be in English but we will have resources in English and Spanish. If you cannot attend but you want access to the resources we will provide at the event, please reach out!

Accessibility Information: To come, please check back soon for more information. If you have a specific request related to accessibility or if you will need a sign-language interpreter, please reach out to Nicole, our Community Educator/Organizer, at nicole@eraseracismny.org.
